A piano starts and then there is silence for around five seconds and then the parts add in and build to the end, until 0:40 when there is an explosion-like burst of sound, mirroring what was described in the rough description of a scene or rough visual simulation that I was writing the music for. I was given a description of a rough sketch of a scene in a video game to score for 45 seconds using Digital Performer and MIDI software at Berklee College of Music in the 2008 Music for Video Games Workshop from Friday 6/27/2008 through Sunday 6/29/2008. Since I was able to create sheet music for all the parts using the software, it was actually performed by a keyboard player, guitarist, bassist and drummer, but this recording is the MIDI version of it from the software. It is a very minimalist piece. I think the opening weird wide piano harmonic interval was just the first notes I was able to enter since there was a real learning curve with me learning how to use the Digital Performer notation software for the first time and having the assignment to do. The descending bass line I think was inspired by the bass line in the song "Threads" by Portishead, off of their 2008 album Third, which was released on Monday 4/28/2008. This Berklee workshop was so soon after that, so I had been listening to that album and track and been influenced by it. This song was originally uploaded to my SoundClick music page at www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=541671&content=music on Sunday 6/29/2008. The track artwork for this song is just the version of the SoundClick logo with the white background since I didn't use one of my own artworks since it was such a short piece.
