I really felt like I had hit a wall when experiencing the difficulties of homesickness, loneliness, juggling courses, sucking at Calculus, dealing with my perception of myself as being an island of femininity and awkwardness in a sea of seemingly self-assured hipsters and jocks, dealing with my motor skills and hand coordination when I first tried taking Intro to Keyboard with Professor Inga Magid at UMass Lowell in the fall semester of 2009, so that's where the title came from, because that's the way it felt. It also is a phrase used in The Innocence Mission's song "Spinning" off of the 1995 album Glow, that resonated with me because it felt like it was a phrase that described in words the (ultimately temporary) despair I was feeling. The audio is cut up and looped noise, found sound, musique concréte, piano playing loops from the practice rooms on the fourth floor of Durgin Hall on South Campus of UMass Lowell at 35 Wilder Street, Lowell, MA 01854, and an electronic drumbeat. There is also, naturally, some jazz horn in the background that bled through the wall from the practice room next door.
