Polyphonic Noise

from Odds and Ends by Reuben Walton

/

about

A sound art/musique concréte/found sound/IDM piece that I created in the fall of 2009, during my first semester at UMass Lowell. The beat patterns change and shift with various noises flowing in and out of the mix and repeating at various intervals. There are coughs, clicks, cuts, breathing, breaths, far off bangs, clattering, clacks, bangs, sounds that sound like processing a check at a cash register or a printer, slightly overdriven electronic humming and buzzing, sniffling, crackling, tapping, far off conversation, door slamming, voice fragments, etc. These were all timing enhanced and quantized at various rhythmic values. The various microbeats created are reminiscent of work by Matmos and, to a lesser extent, the world-famous Stomp dance troupe from Brighton, UK.
