Poke (feat. Derek Piotr)

from Odds and Ends by Reuben Walton

/

about

This was a telephone conversation recorded on Derek's end, with me on the phone and him recording. Some of the lyrics are from the SATB choral piece "My Heart is Offered Still to You", by Orlande de Lassus (1532-1594) which I sang at various choral concerts and auditions for various choral festivals during my high school career at Sturgis Charter Public School. There is also a brief interpolation of Björk's song "Vertebræ by Vertebræ" off of her 2007 album Volta.

lyrics

Derek Piotr: I have no idea. I have to send you that request, I told you to ignore it! Okay, I-I've been recording for, like--(begins singing) Oh, my friend's name is Reuben and he's on the phone with me and we're so happy. Oh, my friend's name is Reuben Zetterqvist Walton, with a "Z", so happy, bum bum bum, bum bum bum. I don't know what to sing about but I told you I'd record this for you so I guess I have to fill the recording with words. I'm almost out of breath but I guess that's what I got for I telling you I would record this song for you I guess that's what I get alalalala. Facial hair ho ho ho handlebars hee hee hee, sideburns ha ha ha ha, ho ho ho ho! I don't know what else to sing about, Reuben, quick give me something to sing about! *brief pause* Well, overture dun dun dun dun dun dun dun! Overture. What? It's Dancer in the Dark. They played it at Carnegie. I have no idea, I haven't been able to find--no, you know what? There's one on YouTube™! Yeah, I think it's come up on Philly or something. Double ong! Omba-ah! Say hello, Reuben!
Reuben Walton: What?
DP: Say hi to the microphone!
RW: Hi to the microphone!
DP: Hahahaha, you're so funny! So, we're...a minute and fifty-six seconds in, in, in! (vocalizing) What do you want me to sing? I'm just gonna record for, like, ten minutes, what do you want me to sing? My heart is offered still to you, be not to constancy untrue! Ba ba bum bum, ba ba ba bum bum, bum bum bum bum bum, up on the toe! Bum bum bum bum bum bum, there is a view, bum bum bum bum bum bum (indistinct) da da da da, da da da da, da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da, if ever there a wiz there was the Wizard of Oz is one because because because because because because because because! Because of the wonderful things he does, do doodle do doodle doo doo! (laughs)
