Piano Practicing, Pt. 1 (feat. Derek Piotr, Carahanni A. Naseem and Jennifer Egloff)

from Odds and Ends by Reuben Walton

/

about

This is a similar piece to my other found sound/musique concréte/IDM pieces, except that it also includes live, slightly out-of-tune piano recorded in a practice room on the fourth floor of Durgin Hall on South Campus at UMass Lowell, at 35 Wilder Street, Lowell, MA 01854. It also includes vocals by Carahanni A. Naseem, a friend of Derek's, as well as a medley of a capella auto-tuned Derek singing "Dull Flame of Desire (feat. Antony Hegarty)" by Björk off of her 2007 album Volta, as well as a couple of a cappella originals. This piece also features me speaking and having a phone conversation with Jennifer Egloff (my mom).

lyrics

Carahanni A Naseem: Why no things, didn't last (repeating)
Reuben Walton: Do re mi do do do re re mi mi re re mi re...do mi do do do re mi do mi re do...(layered) I'm proud of himself, um, I need to review chapter four the single pattern sets, all in the treble clef, key of. Kay. Mi re do do re mi.
Derek Piotr: Corn, corn on the rake, to scatter the seeds, with needs, of hunger so great, and what, we make, sustains, the break, in labor the harvest
RW: Sit down. Do re mi fa sol mi do.
DP: I love your eyes, my dear, their splendid sparkling fire. When suddenly you raise them so, to cast a swift embracing glance, like lightning flashin' in the sky, but there's a charm that is greater still. When my love's eyes are lowered, when all is fired by passion's kiss, and through the downcast lashes, I see the dull flame of desire. And through the downcast lashes, I see the dull flame of desire.
RW: Do re mi, mi do re, mi do re--what?
DP: I love your eyes, my dear, their splendid, sparkling fire. When suddenly you raise them so, to cast a swift, embracing glance, like lightning flashing in the sky. But there's a charm that is greater still, when my love's eyes are lowered, when all is fired by passion's kiss, and through the downcast lashes, I see the dull flame of desire, dull flame...
RW: Do...
DP: I love...
RW: Do do re, do do do re mi..
DP: Your eyes, my dear, their splendid sparkling, fire, when, suddenly you, raise them so...to, cast, a swift em...bracing glance, I see the dull flame, of desire...passion's kiss, I see the dull flame of desire, oh, dull, flame of desire...dull flame, desire...I love, your eye my dear, their splendid sparkling fire, and how they, sparkle oooh, and how they sparkle.
RW: Do do re mi re...
DP: I see the dull flame, of desire....hey
RW: Do do re mi re mi mi re mi mi re mi do, (high pitched singing)
DP: I love..
RW: Dust drifting.
DP: ...your eyes, my dear, their splendid sparkling, fire, when, suddenly, you raise them so, to cast a swift, embracing glance, like, lightning flashing in the sky, but there's a charm, that is greater still, when my love's eyes, are lowered, when all, is fired by, m-passion's kiss, and through the downcast lashes, I see the dull flame of desire. And through the down, cast lashes I see the dull flame, of desire, of desire!
RW: So, mad good, number five, chapter ten, I mean chapter five, number ten.
DP: (squeals) Owww! Drawn and quartered, mocked, and spat upon. This is no way to be treat-ted, la vulnerata, la vulnerata, la vulnerata. Halos of goodness surround you, but they are not enough. Halos of goodness surround you but they are not enough la vulnerata la vulnerata. Drawn, and q-quartered, mocked, and spat upon. This is no way to be treated. La vulnerata, la vulnerata, la vulnerata.
Jennifer Egloff: Have you looked at ISIS...Seventeen into her, UML e-mail.
DP: La vulnerata.
RW: ...at UML.edu. Unless there's so many questions I have, I know it might sound good without you but I, my point is, vocally...(coughs)
DP: La vulnerata...
RW: ...of acting.
DP: There are some things, that I need. There are some things that I, crave daily. There are some things that, when left to us, you know I'll love you always. We cannot, help but, crave them. You know I'll love you always, you know I'll love you always, you know I'll love you always, you know I'll love you always. Left to us, left to us. Left to us. Oh, left to us.
RW: I feel like you could use a lot more, in a trashcan, and a kids on my nose, use a trashcan, just use the plastic bag for that.
DP: I can't watch, this disaster zone...
RW: God, I wish I had his metabolism.
DP: Anymore...
RW: Yeah.
