This was a song I had had the initial melodic and lyrical idea for for a good period of time; it was kind of a joke. The melody is actually borrowed from Stephen Foster’s popular song “Camptown Races”, published in 1850. I got my friend LeAnne Piepiora to lend her vocal and harmonic talents to this composition which is both trippy and goofy, especially with it’s carnivalesque synth accompaniment pattern as the foundation above which we sing these carefree lyrics. We recorded her part in her basement. I wanted it to have a “theatricality by way of a 21+ synthpop carnival” vibe to it. “The Dub” is a colloquial slang term for the town of Weymouth, MA, because it starts with the letter “W”. There are also some musique concrete elements in this piece, including a recording of me vacuuming.
