This is an experimental electronic/dance composition I composed that features Nathan Caradimos and Karen Peris. The beats are very precise and nuanced, subtly changing. Different loops come in and out of the mix. Nathan’s part consists of a looped phrase that is repeated throughout the piece, coming in and out of the mix. Part of the lyrics also are from the art song “Homeward Bound” by Marta Keen, with me singing them in an oddly pitch corrected way, from a recording of me practicing in one of the fourth floor practice rooms in Durgin Hall on UMass Lowell’s South Campus. The bass hits and bass line pulsate in a most peculiar way. Karen Peris’ part is a sampled recording of her band The Innocence Mission covering “Stay Awake", which originally appeared in the 1964 Walt Disney musical film “Mary Poppins”. Their cover is from their 2005 collection of lullabies and traditional and classic songs, entitled Now the Day is Over.
Reuben Walton: In the quiet misty morning, when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing and the sky is clear and red,
When the summer's ceased its gleaming, when the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning, I'll be homeward bound in time.
Bind me not to the pasture. Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I'll return to you somehow.
If you find it's me you're missing, if you're hoping I'll return,
To your thought I'll soon be list'ning; in the road I'll stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing as my journey nears its end,
And the path I'll be retracing when I'm homeward bound again.
Bind me not to the pasture. Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I'll return to you somehow.
In the quiet misty morning when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing, I'll be homeward bound again.
Karen Peris: Stay awake, don't nod your head
Don't lie down upon your bed
While the moon is in the sky
Stay awake, don't close your eyes
Though the world is fast asleep
Though your pillow's soft and deep
You're not sleepy as you seem
Stay awake, don't nod and dream
Stay awake, don't nod and dream

Super dreamy and spacey, just the way I like it. Beautiful music, recommended for fans of Best Coast, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, and other bands. Check 'em out! "D'Arrest" is my favorite! Reuben Walton
