Ladies and Gentlemen (feat. Ellen DeGeneres)

about

An early attempt of mine at what I would later become more proficient at. My goal at this time when I made this was to freestyle, to knock Jeffree Star out of his league and blow him out of the water, to have a lot of bravado, and to make a bunch of looped beats and see what they sounded like. Once they were chopped and looped, they ended up sounding like a weird cool-jazz/stride/bumpity bumpity/shuffle hybrid rhythm. I don't think I was quantizing my beats at this point, so a lot of my productions from this period and from these types of songs tend to sound very rhythmically left-of-center. This song was originally uploaded to my SoundClick music page at www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=541671&content=music&songcount=107&offset=0&currentPage=2 on Sunday 8/26/2007. This song contains a sample in the beginning of a 50 Cent/Eminem instrumental. I composed this using GarageBand software. It also contains a sample of Ellen DeGeneres' voice reading aloud in her audiobook "The Funny Thing Is...", which is a comedy favorite of mine. I think some of the lyrics are from the song "Crownin' Me (feat. Chopper Girl)" by Underground Queens of Crunk. The track artwork for this song is a picture of my late friend Amber Scanlan sitting in the driver's seat of her 2006 Kia Optima smoking a poke, taken with my mom's old digital camera. A "poke" was Amber's term for a cigarette in which the filter has been removed and replaced with cannabis pushed into the non-mouth end. I often used to call out "Deuce on the poke!', meaning I would reserve the second turn or hit on the poke, even though I now realize that very often all that was left for me by that point would be tobacco. In this picture I think we were parked near the North Falmouth Marina, near her Nana Laurette Kelliher Scanlan and Harry Scanlan Sr.'s house on Wild Harbor Road in North Falmouth, MA, United States.
